Private Label & OEM Napkins: Build Your Own Brand Program

Private label vs OEM explained, three levels of customisation, the full launch sequence from brief to shipment, what to ask before signing, and why a 5,000-piece minimum lets you launch a brand line without container-level risk.

Private label & OEM

Put your brand on the napkin, the pack and the carton

A private label napkin program lets a distributor, retail group or hospitality brand sell napkins under its own name — manufactured by us, branded by you. It is the fastest way to move from buying a commodity to owning a product line.

This page explains the difference between private label and OEM in napkin manufacturing, the three levels of customisation available, the step-by-step program, and who it suits commercially.

Discuss a private label program

Private label vs OEM — the distinction that matters

The two terms are often used interchangeably, but in napkin manufacturing they describe different levels of involvement. Knowing which one you need saves a lot of back-and-forth at quotation stage.

ModelWhat it meansTypical buyer
Private labelYou choose from our existing product range — material, size, ply, fold — and we produce it with your brand on the napkin, the pack and the carton.Distributors, wholesalers, retail groups, e-commerce sellers
OEMYou specify the product itself — basis weight, dimensions, emboss pattern, fold configuration — and we manufacture to your specification under your brand.Larger distributors, hospitality groups with a defined spec, national retail programs
Stock wholesaleOur standard products, our branding or neutral packing. No customisation, lowest cost, fastest dispatch.Importers, price-led buyers, first-time testers

Most buyers start with stock wholesale to validate quality, move to private label to build a brand, and only step into full OEM once volumes justify a bespoke specification. That progression is normal, and the 5,000-piece MOQ is designed to make the second step affordable.

Three levels of customisation

You can take all three or start with the first. Many distributors begin with napkin print only, then add retail packing once sell-through is proven and they know which pack sizes move.

Who private label suits — and who it does not

Private label works when you control or influence demand. It is a strong fit for:

It is a weaker fit if your volume is too small to absorb a 5,000-piece minimum per design, or if your customers buy purely on price with no brand loyalty — in those cases stock wholesale will serve you better.

What you should ask before signing a private label agreement

Private label ties your brand to a manufacturer, so diligence matters more than on a stock order. Ask every supplier:

Why the 5,000-piece minimum matters here

Most napkin factories quoting export programs require a full container — which locks a new private label brand into hundreds of thousands of pieces of unproven inventory before a single unit sells. Our custom program starts at 5,000 pieces per design, which means you can launch a branded line, test it in market, and scale to container volumes only once demand is proven.

For distributors building a range, mixed-SKU consolidation lets a single shipment cover several designs — so a first order can carry a full brand line rather than one SKU in depth.
